This book is not yet featured on Listopia. I thought this was going to be about a viscount with cloven hooves, like the devil, but it’s not. He’s cloven in two.

I didn’t care for it. And not because of the lack of hooves. And that’s what I kept thinking here, Chuck Jones could’ve done things with this material. Actually is magical realism the right term here? I mean that sort of half-detached writing where the physical rules are casually broken and there’s a sort of coyness to the tone.
I like Calvino because he cares about Ariosto enough to reuse the characters, and I like him serious better than playful.

Here he’s playful and there’s no sign of the Ariostan characters well, a few have suspiciously close names, but let that goso it’s ultimately not for me. Con Italo Calvino mi sembra sempre di sparare sulla croce rossa, ma non posso farci niente, proprio non mi piace. Non me ne vogliate. Only read if you’re pretentious and have nothing better to do, as this book is condee childrens’ fable for adults with zero plot.

His style is not easily to classify; much of his writing has an air reminiscent to that of fantastical fairy tales Our Ancestors, Cosmicomicsalthough sometimes his writing demeviado more “realistic” and in the scenic mode of observation Difficult Lovesfor example.
Some of his writing has been called postmodernreflecting on literature and the act of reading, while some has been labeled magical realist, others fables, others simply “modern”. I have tried to remove weight, sometimes from people, sometimes from heavenly bodies, sometimes from cities; above all I have tried to remove weight from the structure of stories and from language.
