As a minimum, the test samples used should be as homogeneous as possible, that are drawn from the material from which the disparate test results are obtained, and that are assigned randomly in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. Once the flame is turned off the material continues to burn. The test results from the two laboratories should be compared using a statistical test for unpaired data, at a probability level chosen prior to the testing series.

Flame-resistant FR clothing is required for workers in a variety of industries, and each industry is regulated by different safety standards that specify the level and type of protection that workwear should provide.

These safety measures are necessary for the practical safeguarding of employees relative to the hazards associated with electrical energy during activities such as installation, inspection, operation, maintenance and demolition of electric conductors, electric equipment, signaling and communication conductors and equipment, and raceways.

Through the use of a controlled flame, these small samples are exposed for different periods of time. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

It has specific requirements on handling flammable substances, however, it does not specifically require FR clothing. In addition to non-thermal requirements, the standard requires the fabric to be FR.
